The missing exam
Difficulty level: Easy
The most important exam of the year was kept in a sealed envelope inside a school office. Before closing time, the envelope had disappeared, and nobody had left the building yet.
Who took the exam, which object incriminates them and who did they try to frame?
Your mission
Work out where each person and each object was.
- Each position is occupied by one person and may contain at most one of the three objects.
- The person responsible was in position 5.
- The object in position 5 is the one that incriminates them.
- The person they tried to frame was in position 9.
People and objects
People: Álvaro, Beatriz, Carlos, Inés, Marcos, Noelia, Óscar, Pilar, Raúl.
Objects: Key, Folder, Backpack.
Clues
- Carlos and Álvaro are in opposite corners.
- Noelia is between Carlos and Inés.
- Beatriz is immediately south of Carlos, and Noelia is immediately east of Carlos.
- Óscar is immediately south of Beatriz.
- Pilar is near Noelia and Raúl.
- Marcos is immediately north of Álvaro.

How to read the clues
- Corner: positions 1, 3, 7 or 9.
- Opposite corners: the pairs of opposite corners are 1 ↔ 9 and 3 ↔ 7.
- Between: in the same row, column or diagonal, with exactly one square in between.
- Same column: the elements are in any of the three positions of the same column.
- Near / next to: any of the 8 adjacent squares, including diagonals. Sharing exactly the same square does not count as being near.
- Immediately north / south / east / west: the immediately adjacent square in that direction.
