The Alcázar Circus incident
Difficulty level: Easy
During the final show of the Alcázar Circus, the frame of Jacinta’s trapeze gave way. The technicians discovered that someone had deliberately loosened several nuts.
Who caused the sabotage, which object did they use and who was the target?
Your mission
Place the nine people and the three objects in the areas of the circus by following the clues.
- Each position is occupied by one person and may contain at most one of the three objects.
- The person responsible was in position 5.
- The object in position 5 is the one that incriminates the person responsible.
- The target of the sabotage was in position 3.
People and objects
People: Alba, Borja, Ernesto, Jacinta, Octavio, Ricardo, Sofía, Teresa, Vicente.
Objects: Rope, Screwdriver, Wrench.
Clues
- Octavio and Teresa are in opposite corners. Octavio is in the same row as Jacinta, further to the left.
- Sofía is between Octavio and Jacinta.
- Ricardo is immediately south of Octavio and in the same row as Alba.
- Borja is immediately east of Alba.
- Vicente is in the same column as Octavio.
- The Rope is immediately west of Sofía.
- The Rope and the Screwdriver are in corners and share neither a row nor a column.
- The Wrench is near the Rope and the Screwdriver.
How to read the clues
- Near / next to: any of the 8 adjacent squares, including diagonals. Two elements that share a position are not considered near.
- Between: in the same row, column or diagonal, with exactly one square in between.
- Immediately north / south / east / west: the adjacent square in that direction.
- Same column: any of the three positions in the same column.
- Corners: positions 1, 3, 7 and 9.
- Opposite corners: the pairs 1 ↔ 9 and 3 ↔ 7. If two corners share neither a row nor a column, they are 1 ↔ 9 or 3 ↔ 7.
